Big News :)

I made a short comic about my OCs! This is the first time I've written a comic by myself. It was super indulgent and fun! I'll be releasing physical copies in these events:

October Komiket (Oct. 12-13) - SM Megatrade Halls 2&3
PotA Cebu Winter (Nov. 23-24) - SM Seaside Cebu
Soft 6 Market (Dec. 13-15) - Chingkeetea Tomas Saco, CDO

If you can't go to any of those events, I'll be opening online orders before the end of the year! For now you can read the first 3 pages here
I'll be releasing the full comic online for free this December :)

Meet the characters!

Maria

Maria is a young mangkukulam (witch) exploring her craft. Adventurous and free-spirited, she is always on the lookout for anything she can use to experiment with her witchcraft. Maria is friendly & mostly harmless... as long as you don't mess with her! Mangkukulams practice black and natural magic and are usually associated with curses and punishing wrongdoers. Early on, as Maria explores her craft, she leans on to natural magic, healing, and potion-making. As she grows up though, she starts dabbling more onto the darker side of things 😉
Maria is usually found wandering the forests, studying what she finds or looking for something she can use for her potions. Sometimes people would come to her asking for common requests like a love potion (gayuma) or curses (sumpa), she thinks its boring though and will most likely turn you down unless you have interesting offers.

Abi

Varsity player by day, manananggal by night 🦇. Abi is secretly a manananggal. It's so secret that even she didn't know. Abi had no idea that she has manananggal blood from her late mother. You can imagine her confusion when signs started showing up and the horror when she finally transforms. Abi tries to navigate her high school life as a normal teenager while struggling to control her new vampiric instincts.

The Story (so far)

One school fair night, two cryptic souls find each other in a horrific mess.The entire student body had been celebrating the founding anniversary of the school. Abi had just finished playing in the final volleyball match and without a doubt, her team won as champions. Although, Abi is nowhere to be found for the celebration.As celebrations drag on at the school court, Maria is found roaming the silent campus under the bright full moon. She has no interest partaking in any of the school events. Besides, she has much more exciting plans for the night. This founding anniversary gave her an excuse to sneak into the school grounds and be alone with the magnificent balete tree in the school yard, with the full moon looming brilliantly over it. As Maria approaches the tree, she'll soon find that her plans for the night will take an unexpected, yet exciting turn.Maria finds a trail of blood leading up to the tree. Curious as she is, Maria cautiously approaches the tree. She grabs onto whatever protection she can find in her bag and peeks at the back of the huge trunk.Bloody.. legs? With the top half missing? Hold on. Maria knows exactly what this is. Before she finishes her train of thought, she finds the other half suspended in the air. Huge black wings attached to the upper half, the bright moonlight obscuring her view.Let's just say, someone finally found Abi that night.
"Wait, I can explain! I-it's not what it looks like!" Abi frantically bursts out
"...You're a manananggal?"
"Uhm... I guess it is what it looks like..."Abi explains her situation to Maria. A few weeks ago, she horrifyingly transformed into a manananggal and has no clue what happened. Maria, a mangkukulam and expert in all things cryptic and enchanted, has vowed to help Abi navigate her new double-life (whether she likes it or not). The two embark on a journey of self-exploration as they try to navigate their unconventional, albeit exciting, lives!-----Abi and Maria's story is a work in progress ✨ There is also a second chapter to their story -- a timeskip with darker, juicier themes. But that's for another day! For now, let us enjoy a sweet coming-of-age story of two teens navigating their secret lives together 💖

Alternate Universes

(Left Image) These are all of Maria's variations so far! Left to right, the first 3 are from their regular universe. The 4th one (and right image) is a version of Maria I used for a TTRPG campaign where she's a travelling alchemist. The last one and below is a 19th century Philippines AU.

I don't have a story for this AU, I just thought it would be cute to put them in this illustration. But I'll definitely explore more of this universe in the future!

Hello, I'm Marc! I'm a freelance illustrator, background, and color artist based in Mindanao, Philippines. In my free time, I let the tiny little creatures that live rent free in my head (my OCs) take over me. Why is this a fan club? Is that part of the story?
"Fan club" is just a gimmick to make people feel included in sharing the love for my OCs. If you like my OCs, then you can call yourself a fan club member! Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with Abi & Maria's story, but it would be funny if it was.
Will this be a comic/novel/game/animation/etc.?
I have no plans to take their story into any serious business! I am open to the possibility of doing all those things but right now I just want to explore their characters and their world and have fun with it in any medium I want to (:
Why is it called the Maria Fan Club? What about Abi?
